High vs. Afternoon: Tea At The Williamsburg Hotel

Is it offensive to ask what's the difference between high tea and afternoon tea? Nowadays the divisions are blurred, with food such as scones and sponge cakes appearing at both meals. If we're going to be strict about it, afternoon tea fills the gap between lunch and dinner, but it's rarely vital to one's survival. High tea, on the other hand, is a necessary meal, eaten when typically artisan workers return. So what's the difference? The working lives of many do not allow the time to sit down to enjoy scones and cakes in the late afternoon, so for many, the ritual is now saved for holiday and special treat.

Now that we've properly offended people, onward bound to one of my favorite afternoon tea spots in Brooklyn served during high tea time... The Restaurant At The Williamsburg Hotel!

From the soaring, stable-inspired decor and chairs upholstered in the trademark cobalt leather, to the coterie of chic creatives dining on "accomplished American with a swipe at inventive Italian" (The New York Times), The Restaurant At The Williamsburg Hotel is a place to savor, socialize, see, and most definitely be seen.

Choose your teas from a wonderful assortment of single-origin offerings by Bellocq Tea Atelier, the esteemed London tea house - steeped and served in an exquisite T2 porcelain pot.

Finally, with a live jazz band playing on Saturday & Sunday afternoons, High Tea at The Williamsburg is a weekend adventure that truly has it all.

Chic upon chic, charm upon charm; this glamorous afternoon is fit for a royal...
